Laurent Benaîm - Recent works

After degradation, elderness, illness, poverty and death, a little bit of hedonism won't harm. A third post about Laurent Benaim, who is creating a strong and modern sex iconography. I'm not sure but it seems these shots are recent works. And they become less and less descriptive and more and more "pictural" (in the French meaning of the world, i.e., like paintings). Here group sex loses all its bleak and unsane assimilation and becomes a serene exciting activity between people in search of the same lost carnal and orificial heaven. The treatment (technics of the 19th century it seems) of the image totally avoids any comparison with porno stuff (even if some porno stuff can have its merits, but usually not for the artistic quality of the visual approach). Hope he'll give us more in the future. His site here.

Jens Juul - Six degrees of Copenhagen

Jens Juul is a (rather) young photographer living in Denmark (more specifically in Copenhagen) and this series is crude, raw and without any of the artistic embellishments often associated with fake naturalistic images. And this can't even be qualified of "beautiful". Of course the strong blck and white contrast he uses in his pictures produces a sort of expressionist effect that could be considered as artificial but the fact is that it leaves a long-lasting impression and after all it's what we are asking to photographs (and art in general). Note he has won the Sony World Photography Awards 2013 in the portraiture category but I don't know if it's with this series. You can look for more on his site here, with a statement (not really clear to me) about his intentions in doing this project.
